A loan of $1,500 helped to broaden her assortment of goods.

Sotkinay's story

Sotkinay K. is a 51-year-old widow who has two daughters who are the main helpers in family business. In 1995, to support her family, she started her business in selling nuts and dried fruits. With the initial capital of 10,000 Kyrgyz Soms (~$200), she bought two parcels of goods and resold them at the local market.

Her deceased husband helped her in all her activities, but after his sudden death, she didn’t give way to despair. She put all her efforts into giving her children all they needed. Sotkinay worked hard and managed to obtain a small shop that earned her a monthly income of 5,000 Kyrgyz Soms. Her tireless persistence led her to borrow two loans from Bai Tushum and Partners, which were repaid without any delays.

Now Sotkinay is applying for a loan of 70,000 Kyrgyz Soms to enlarge her assortment of goods. With the revenues, she plans to expand the family business by opening a second shop for her daughter.
