A loan of $550 helped to buy shampoo, dyes, creams and beauty products.

Nilda Alberta's story

Every fortnight the members of the “Mujeres Trabajadoras” (Hard-Working Women) community bank meet in Rocafuerte canton. This place is known for the delicious desserts and sweets which its residents make and which are are known throughout the country.

Here we meet Nilda. She is 44 years old and lives with her common-law husband. They have 5 children; four are grown up and the youngest is in school and still lives at home. Nilda's husband is a farmer. She studied to be a beautician and this is her business activity.

Nilda has a beauty salon where her customers come to receive a number of different personal beauty treatments. She cuts hair, colors hair and does make up. She works every day from 8.00am to 6.00pm. There are days when she has a lot of work and her daughter helps her out. She also sells beauty products and treatments.

This loan will be used to buy shampoo, dyes, creams and other beauty products. Nilda has been a member of her community bank for two loan cycles. She likes the ease with which she can make her payments. Her dream is to own a big spa.
