A loan of $725 helped buy sacks of fertilizer and products to stock up her store.

Loida's story

Loida, 30 years old, is a courageous single mother of 3 children: Jelsy (13), Nicol (12) and Talía (8); she has a live-in partner and lives in her own house which is located in the community of Sanchirio (Peruvian central jungle). Although she feels alone in the fight to educate her children, Loida does not give up according to her own statements that she prays to God every day to grant her the strength so she can get ahead in life. She has been in the agriculture business for 3 years; she has 3 hectares (unit of measure equivalent to 10,000 square meters or 2.5 acres) of land where she grows coffee and bananas. Her crops, thanks to God, sell at good prices. Consequently, she setup a grocery store in her house where the nearby inhabitants buy basic necessity products every day, but her main priority is to have capital to invest in agriculture. This is the second loan with MFP; she has been working approximately 2 years with her community bank, where she believes the people are committed to their work. With the loan she will receive, she will buy 5 sacks of organic fertilizer as well as products to stock up her grocery store.
