A loan of $550 helped to buy large quantities of aluminum, screws, nuts and bolts.

Fredy Antonio's story

Freddy Antonio G. lives in Galapa, a municipality very close to the city of Barranquilla, known for its crafts with beautiful designs in all colors and textures on all kinds of surfaces like wood, aluminum, glass, etc.

This is the case with Freddy G. who is well known in this community for his innate gifts as an artisan. He has a business making windows, doors and aluminum frames that he learned when he was an employee in a large firm in Barranquilla in 1995. When he was laid off in 2000 he managed to set up his own micro business with a small domestic market share. Gradually he has become better known around Galapa having started with his relatives, friends and neighbors. He is now better known than previously.

This is his first loan with Fundación Mario Santo Domingo and he plans to use this Kiva loan to increase his ability to pay cash and be able to fill some pending orders that if he does not do in an opportune way may be lost to the competition. Because of this he will buy large amounts of aluminum sheets, screws, bolts and nuts.

His dream is to set up a business someplace separate from his home with inventory available for cash or credit. His main challenge has been getting quick loans to strengthen the little working capital he has so that he can increase his credit sales in terms his customers can respond to.
