The San Miguel committee was founded 3 years ago thanks to the interest of a number of ladies who already had experience in such committees. They decided to form a new committee made up of a group of female neighbors from Guarambare.

The women have managed to form a committee in which discipline and respect of the committee's regulations are an unquestionable rule.

The group meets every Sunday in the financial coordinator's house.

The group's president is Ines. She has a number of business activities but her main source of income is selling used clothes. Her business is doing very well in terms of sales because her prices are much lower than those for new clothes and she works in her own home.

Ines is requesting a loan to buy bundles of used clothes.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
