Abel is 35 years old, married and the father of eight, aged between 3months and 21 years, with five attending school. He has been a mixed farmer for more than fifteen years. He sells maize, tea leaves, tomatoes, vegetables at the local market.
He has requested this loan of Kshs. 55,000 from Juhudi Kilimo to buy a dairy cow which will earn him income to pay school fees and provide milk for consumption for the family. In five years he aspires to have expanded his dairy farming to the extent of having 30 litres of milk per day.
The challenge he is facing is transport to the market. He appreciates Juhudi for supporting him financially and requests more training.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
