Amigas Por Siempre Group's story

The “Amigas por siempre” (Friends for Life) community bank is beginning its 11th loan cycle with Pro Mujer as part of the Los Andes regional office. It is a group which has been together for quite a long time. The group has nine female members. Their businesses include: shoe sales, traditional knitting, clothes sales, egg store, potato flour sales, blanket knitting, clothes sales, purse and footwear sales and 'Cochabambina' skirt sales.

The community bank president, Aurelia, is married and has three children. She comments that she has been working with Pro Mujer for nearly six years. Aurelia's business is making and selling 'Cochabambina' skirts (knee-length pleated skirts). She started this business thanks to the support of one of her relatives 10 years ago. Now she produces her skirts independently. Her first loan was for $100 USD which she invested in buying fabric and thread. Her current loan request is for 3,500 bolivianos, a sum of money which will be added to the savings withdrawal which she has made to buy fabric. When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she commented that she likes the training and the health services. She has visited the health clinic and was well looked after.

In this group: Aurelia, Yamyla Vanessa, Margarita, Juana Gloria, Maria Eugenia, Rosmery, Gladys Rosa, Erika Deysi, Maria Paulina
