A loan of $725 helped purchase bags of organic fertilizer.

Julia's story

Julia is 44 years old and married to Enrique, 53. They have five children, but only two live with them: Aime, 21; and Katy, 14. The four live together in their own home located in a rural area of Yaroka. As the years have passed Julia has felt happy of having made headway for her children, and now she is working hard to continue making progress. To do that, she has a small food store in her home where she offered products of primary need to the people in her community. The extra money, along with the agricultural work she has done for the past 10 years, provides her with good profits, but during times of drought she suffers losses that the store helps cover. Her main crops are peas, potatoes and gladiolus, which after every harvest she sells at her town's local market. During agricultural seasons she travels to the capital to obtain better profits. She is currently planning to purchase more farmland. This is Julia's second loan with Kiva partner MFP, and as a member of her community banks she says she has developed as a businesswoman and has a lot of support to be able to succeed. With the loan she is requesting, she plans to purchase bags of organic fertilizer, which she plans to use on her potato crops, which she will harvest in a few months.
