A loan of $900 helped to buy perfume, creams, cosmetics and sale products.

Juana Lucelinda's story

Every fortnight the “Madre Para Un Futuro Mejor” (Mother for a Better Future) community bank meets in the 24 de Mayo canton, in Manabí province. The area is known for its beautiful landscapes, its forests, its range of fauna and its hard-working people who farm and raise animals.

Here we find Juana. She is 41 years old and married. She has 4 children from her marriage. The two eldest are already grown up and study at university whilst the younger two (who are twins) are in school. Juana's husband is a school teacher. Juana is currently studying a degree in Education Sciences from an open university and working as a teacher in a local school.

As well as being a teacher and housewife, Juana also sells Yanbal products (beauty products, cosmetics, perfumes and ladies' accessories). She works every morning selling to her work colleagues and in the afternoons she visits her customers. She leaves her products on credit and collects payments every Saturday or Sunday.

This loan will be used to buy perfume, creams, cosmetics and especially sale products. Juana has been a member of her community bank for 4 loan cycles and she likes the cohesion of the group. Her goals are to finish her studies and to continue working.
