Rosa Florencia's story

Rosa C. is a member of the "Siempre Amigas" ["Friends Always"] communal bank. She lives in the community of Maluay, which belongs to Del Valle parish. This parish is characterized by its cold climate and beautiful natural scenery. Its people work in agriculture and raise animals, and some also go to the city to do a variety of work. Many have also emigrated in search of better jobs.

Rosa is 33 years old and married, with 3 children: a 14-year-old, 13-year-old, and her latest child only 2 months old. Her two older children are in school. Her husband is a master mason and works in construction. They do not have their own house, so they live in the home of a family member.

Rosa's work is running a small shop with assorted products. She has operated this business for 5 years, and she works from Monday through Saturday from 10 in the morning until 7 at night. The shop where she has her business is rented. In spite of the fact that she spends most of her time at her business, she never neglects her children.

Rosa is in her tenth loan cycle with her communal bank, and she has developed very close friendships there. The "Siempre Amigas" group is made up of women who are cheerful, determined and hard-working. She will invest the funds from her loan in buying more merchandise, such as stuffed animals, shoes, etc., for the Christmas season which is approaching. Her greatest dream is to expand her business even more.
