A loan helped a member to purchase vitenge, kanga, and bed sheet to sell.

Dove Group's story

Mariam S. is in her late twenties and has one child. For the past two years, she has run a business purchasing vitenge (cloth), kangas (sarongs), and other second-hand clothing, selling it door-to-door. She purchases her goods in the Kariakoo marketplace of Dar es Salaam and sells them in Arusha, in the north of Tanzania.

She works from 8 am to 9 pm, and makes a monthly profit of more than $100. Her dream is to one day open a store to sell her clothing so that she doesn't have to sell door-to-door.

This will be Mariam's first loan with Kiva field partner Tujijenge Tanzania. She will share the loan with her group, Dove, which has 15 members in total. The group members will hold each other accountable in repaying the loan. Mariam can be seen in the photo in the center of the first row, seated, wearing orange and black.
