A loan of $1,100 helped to buy the ingredients to prepare sweets.

María Auxiliadora's story

The members of the Communal Bank “Mujeres Organizadas” [Organized Women] meet every two weeks at the Rocafuerte Canton. This place is known for its delicious sweets made by the locals and recognized throughout the country.

Maria is 57 years old, married, and has 10 adult children. Two of them live with her and her husband who is a farmer. She has been part of the communal bank for six loan cycles, this will be her seventh. She likes the bank because the interests are low and easy to pay.

She makes and sells sweets. She gets up every morning at 5:00am to make them which she does with patience and love. She says that these are the key to obtaining wonderful results. Once the sweets are ready she gives them to other vendors who take them to various cantons and cities around the country. She has done this work for 30 years and she says her mother taught her how to do it. One of her children helps her with her work

This loan will be used to buy the necessary ingredients to make the sweets. Her dream has been to have a small company with the appropriate machinery to make the sweets in large quantities.
