Calacoto Group's story

The Calacoto community bank was formed by members of the German Busch Focus Center to apply for a first loan. The bank has ten members who operate various businesses. They formed the group to gain access to health, lending and training skills. Businesses operated by the members include vegetable sales, making and selling traditional textiles called "aguayo", weaving and selling blankets, cookware sales, rug-making, and clothing sales.

Celestina Q. is the president of the community bank. She is a young woman, 28, just starting her own family with her partner. Celestina operates a vegetable sales business. She started the business a year ago and is now applying for a Bs.2000 (2,000 bolivianos) loan to buy wholesale supplies of vegetables to stock her business.
