A loan of $625 helped to pay for tuition for a semester at the University.

Patricia Alejandra's story

In the region "Los Jazmines" of the city of Portoviejo, the capital of Manabí, which has been known for many years as the city of the royal tamarinds, the members of the communal bank "Mujer y Fortaleza" ["Woman and Strength"] get together every two weeks.

In this place we meet Patricia, who is 28 years old and is a single mother of an 8 year old boy that studies in school. She lives in her parents' house and studies Law at the University "San Gregorio de Portoviejo". This is her third cycle in the communal bank, and she likes it because of the ease of payment.

She has a van that she uses as school transportation. She gets up very early in the morning and goes out to do her daily route to pick up her students at the different schools. She does this two times in the morning and two times in the afternoon. She works from Monday through Friday and on Sundays when they hire her transportation for field trips.

This loan is to pay for the tuition for a semester at the University. Her dream is to finish her degree and practice her profession.
