This village bank loan has twenty-six people who live in Preaek Ta Ong Ti Muoy village in Kandal province. Mrs. Sok R. is the village bank president and her age is 62. She has been selected by the other members who will each use their loan for different purposes. She and her husband, Mr. Nguon Khut, are farmers who own a 1-hectare plot of land where they grow rice, not to sell but to support their family. She is also a mat weaver while her husband is a construction worker.

She faces a problem because it is time to grow crops on her field but she does not have money to support the crops. So, to improve production, Mrs. Sok R. is applying for a loan to buy rice seed and gasoline. With any remainder of the loan she is going to hire farming laborers and oxen to plow her field. Through this activity they support three children, two of whom are employed in an organization, while the other is a student.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
