A loan of $900 helped purchase women's clothing, beauty products, perfumes, and accessories.

Silvia Patricia's story

The Communal Bank “Ilusiones” (Illusions) meets every fifteen days in the neighborhood of El Progresso in the city of Portoviejo. This marginalized urban area is the most populated section of the city and known for being the location of the Portoviejo Women’s Prison.

Silvia is 22 years old and a single mother of a three year old son who she adores. She is in her ninth semester of studying economics at the Technical University of Manabí.

Silvia also sells products manufactured by Avon and Esika (beauty products, perfumes, and women’s accessories). In addition, she sells clothes of the Starchic brand through a catalog. Silvia works every day from 9am to 11am and from 2pm to 4pm. She sells to her classmates at the University. Her products are offered on credit and she collects payments every fifteen days in 2-3 installments depending on the price of the product.

This loan will be used to buy more products, especially women’s clothes that sell the most. Silvia is in her third loan cycle with the Communal Bank and enjoys the support that she has received. Thanks to the loans, she has been able to get ahead in her business and move forward with her studies. Her dreams are to become a successful professional and provide her son with the best.
