Baronesa Bionet's story

The Communal Bank “Ilusiones” (Illusions) meets every fifteen days in the neighborhood of El Progresso in the city of Portoviejo. This marginalized urban area is the most populated section of the city and known for being the location of the Portoviejo Women’s Prison.

Sra. Baronesa is a founding member of the Communal Bank and enjoys the assistance she receives to grow her business. She is 62 years old and single, but was in a relationship for many years that resulted in three children. All of her children are grown, but the youngest still lives with her.

Baronesa has a small bakery where she prepares and sells bread and delicious pastries. She says what she enjoys most is decorating her creations and they are well-appreciated by those people who are familiar with her work. Baronesa works every day from 5am until the evening hours so that she can prepare everything she needs the following day. She sells her goods from her small shop and also makes deliveries every weekend.

This loan will be used to buy flour and other necessary products for making bread and pastries. Her dream is to establish a small enterprise that makes cakes.
