A loan of $1,100 helped hardware products and articles for the home.

Mariela's story

Maria S. lives in the city of Cartagena de Indias with her husband and has two children who are 19 and 23-years-old. She is the owner of a store with various products that she started 14 years ago where she sells articles for the home and has gradually added hardware items. Her sales system is by credit and also cash sales. She has been linked to the Fundación Mario Santo Domingo for more than nine years and has received 7 loans with which she has been able to diversify the line of products she offers, such as being able to offer umbrellas, raincoats, children’s clothing, etc. She has also moved into a line of hardware products, furniture, and fixtures and with this has been able to not only break even, but also to profit and this has enabled her to reinvest in her business and offer credit opportunities to her customers. Her credikiva (Kiva loan) is her eighth loan and with it she will purchase items for the home and clothing for women, men, and children which she plans to package and display during the December season so that they can be sold as Christmas presents where joy and family unity is expressed and shared in the famous gifts that will help to increase sales in Mariela’s microbusiness. Mariela’s greatest dream is to expand her business and this is her great goal, as well as obtaining her own home through the community construction program led by the Fundación Mario Santo Domingo.
