A loan of $850 helped to purchase sweets and candies.

Luis's story

Luis is a member of the “Pueblo de Indios Emprende” community bank which is located in San Vicente de Tagua Tagua district. He has been selling sweets and candies in an itinerant manner for 4 years. He makes his sales at sports grounds and stadiums where he doesn't stay in a fixed spot but moves around. He makes his sales alone but his wife, who is also a member of Fondo Esperanza and sells Avon products and makes repairs from home, sometimes accompanies him to sell.

With this loan he will travel to Rancagua (a city near San Vicente) to buy merchandise. Although Luis has been in a wheelchair for 6 years (because of a disability) and has been ill for 12 years, he has, little by little, been increasing his range of goods and his dream is to have a kiosk. He is currently negotiating this with his local council.

Luis has 3 grown-up children who live with him and also help support him financially. Luis has enjoyed taking part in Fondo Esperanza together with his fellow group members with whom he feels great unity.

San Vicente de Tagua Tagua is a district in the central area of Chile in the Libertador General Bernardo O'Higgins region on the banks of the river Estero Zamorano. The area's main source of income is the production of lemons, oranges and avocados.
