A loan of $550 helped to buy liquor for her business.

Diana Beatriz's story

Diana López is a member of the Gualaceñitas Communal Bank. She lives in the center of Gualaceo canton, known as "The Garden of Azuay", about 35 kilometers to the east of Cuenca. It's a prosperous town nestled in one of the most beautiful valleys in the province and in the country. It is a very fertile land, and it offers beautiful scenery and a pleasant climate, which make it an important tourist destination.

Diana is 28 years old, and she is in a common-law marriage. She has four children; 13, 10, 5, and 4 years old. Her oldest daughter goes to high school, and the three other children go to elementary school in the canton. Her husband is a bricklayer. They do not have their own house; they live in a relative’s house.

Diana works in the snack bar in a school. She has been developing this business for one year. Her schedule is from 9:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Monday through Friday.

She also has a liquor store, which she has been working in for four years. She works in that business from Thursday through Saturday. She works from two in the afternoon until two in the morning.

She has been a member of the communal bank for one year. She has a very good friendship with all of the members. She will use the loan to buy more products for her liquor business.

Her goal is to build a house on a piece of land that she owns.
