Maria Mercedes's story

María is a member of the Communal Bank "Santiago the Patron Saint", located in the district of Santiago D. Pupuja, the province of Azángaro, and the department of Puno. She is 55 years old, and married with five children (two of whom are independent). She studied as far as the fifth year of her primary education.

María has worked with Manuela Ramos for six months. Her first loan was for the amount of 500 PEN, and she used the money to increase the capital for her business selling animals, potatoes, "chuño" (dehydrated potatoes), and cheese.

She is now asking for a loan of 500 PEN, money that she will use to invest in her business selling various items.

Her dream is to have a dairy cow. Her favorite thing about working with the Communal Bank is the savings program.
