A loan of $2,125 helped a member to pay his own university fees.

Augustine's Group's story

Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT), a partner of Kiva.org in Makeni, northern Sierra Leone is pleased to present to you teachers of the Peninsula Secondary School, in Waterloo, a small town, where “Shine on Sierra Leone” has partnered with SMT to start a branch. This school was founded by the Seventh Day Adventists (SDA) in 1961. The school is staffed with thirty-six teachers and has 1,000 pupils.

These hard-working and dedicated teachers have come to SMT, a partner of Kiva.org to seek a loan of SLL 8,700,000. With the help of this loan, these teachers can embark on some meaningful project that their mere salaries alone can not do. Some of them will use the loan to buy pieces of furniture, others to buy house-building materials; some buy a piece of land or pay school fees for their children, while some of them will invest the loan in business.

Augustine R. is the leader of this group of teachers. Born in the village of Monkanji, Augustine is today residing in Waterloo together with his wife and one child. Augustine is requesting for a loan of SLL 1,500,000 in order to pay his university fees.

In this group: Augustine, Mustapha T., Joseph P.k., Wilhemina, Sylvanus M., Matthew Jennis
