A loan of $550 helped to buy fabric, faces, cotton filling and Christmas decorations for December sales.

Rosa Isabel's story

Rosa L. is married and has three children whose ages range from 21 to 36 years. She makes hand-made crafts that she sells in her own general store. She began these activities based on her own creativity and self-taught skills in the area and the marketplace.

Rosa is a very intelligent woman who takes full advantage of all her knowledge. She is always making items according to the season, the market and their profitability. She adapts quickly to product changes when necessary because she is able to adjust to market requirements. This is what happened previously when she used to make ceramic items but sales became complicated due to high competition. She was able to stay in business learning different manual skills and techniques like the ones she practices today making rag dolls and cloth crafts in her own workshop. She has a machine to manufacture them and a sales point in her own home which she uses quite efficiently in that she added other merchandise like female articles, decorative figures, kitchen decorations, home goods, multiple-use clothing items that also generate profits.

This is her second loan from Fundación Mario Santo Domingo that will be used to buy raw materials and ingredients like: fabric, faces, cotton filling and Christmas decorations for the December sales season. She used her first loan to increase working capital and acquired new customers. She wants to use her Kiva loan to continue growing especially to reach her dream and great challenge of having a large store specializing in her own products.
