A loan of $550 helped to upgrade cages.

Bertha's story

Bertha is the mother of a family, she is 57 years old and she lives together with her husband in the community of La Pradera of the Pimentel district. It is a suburban region located about 10 minutes from the city of Chiclayo. She raises and sells guinea pigs. She raises them from a customized cage in her home feeding them grains and natural grasses. She sells them to the general public and to private owners. These animals are in great demand in the market because their meat is well liked and consumed in home in the entire country. With this business she is able to contribute with her husband, an agriculturist, toward the family's finances. Bertha wishes to improve the cages with the purchase of wire meshes. She also wants to purchase balanced feed in order to ensure the animals are raised in optimal conditions and be able to see an improvement in earnings. She has requested a first time loan from Edpyme Alternativa (Kiva Field Partner) in the amount of 1500 nuevos soles in order to achieve her goal. Bertha is a responsible woman who enjoys her work. Her goal is to keep growing as a small business owner and to improve the quality of life for her family.
