A loan of $4,650 helped a member to buy a freezer.

Creciendo Para El Futuro 1, 2 & 3 Group's story

Adriana, a single mother with one child, is the coordinator of her group Creciendo para el futuro 1, 2 & 3, (Growing for the Future). She makes her home here in a simple structure and is working hard to take care of her son.

Having repaid her previous loan and grown her business, Adriana is excited to be taking her fifth loan with Esperanza. She has had her business for around three years, cooking foods and delivering them to people. She plans to use this loan to invest in her business by buying a freezer, and will use additional profits to save and buy a computer for her son. In the near short future, she wants to build her house.

This Esperanza associate began with us because the loans are for business and her story is representative of her group and of Esperanza's Haitian and Dominican (many of whom recently emigrated to the DR from Haiti) clients generally. Her group is located in Samana, a lush rugged peninsula with a nascent tourism industry. This area, like nearly all impoverished areas of the Dominican Republic, suffers from unreliable running water (none of which is potable) and electricity.

In this group: Adriana, Eugenia, Fabio*, Emiliano, Carmen, Floira, Maria, Ligia*, Natividad, Juliana*, Paula, Dominga, Clara, Brunilda, Cecilia
