A loan of $500 helped to cultivate cocoa, corn and rice.

Gladys Amanda's story

Gladys Amanda C. G. is 37 years old. She is single and lives with a partner in the canton of Chillanes in the Bolivar province. She has 2 children age 9 and 11.

Gladys is a member of the rural communal bank "El Placer de Ser Amigos," which is located 20 minutes from the San Jose del Tambo parish. There are 15 members in all; the majority of the members cultivate cocoa or have their own small businesses.

Gladys works in agriculture, cultivating cocoa, corn and rice. Some intermediaries come to her community to buy her crops, and she also sells some of her crops in Matilde and in Mata de Cacao. She requests a loan to continue cultivating cocoa, and to buy a water pump because without water one cannot produce cocoa. With the support of this loan, she will be able to better support her children and keep them in school. Her dream is that her children complete their education and that her crops continue to produce so that she can get by.

She does not have much free time because she spends all of her time working on her business and in her home.
