A loan of $500 helped to buy liquids for farming and continue growing rice and corn.

Mirtha Emelania's story

Mirtha Emelania T. P. is 49 years old and lives in the canton of Chillanes in the Bolívar province with her common-law husband. She has three children.

Mirtha is a member of the El Placer de Ser Amigos communal bank, which is located 20 minutes from the parish of San José del Tambo. There are 15 members in total, the majority of which work growing cacao or have their own small businesses.

Mirtha works in agriculture, growing rice and corn on a piece of rented land. She makes the purchases and sales of her products in the province. She has still not sold her corn this year.

She is requesting the loan to buy liquids and to continue growing rice and corn. She would also like to buy and raise some chickens. With the help of the loan, she will be able to improve her crops and help her family. Her dream for the next five years is for her children to continue in school – one is already in 6th grade. She says that all is well with her crops and a relative recently had an operation, but it went well.

She works in farming everyday but she sometimes goes out on weekends.
