Leopoldina's story

Leopoldina C. arrived from Bogotá a little over three years ago to the city of Barranquilla and set up her own business selling refrigerated meats and also selling merchandise by catalog. She makes good use of her good relations with the police depot which is quite near her living quarters and with the associated clinic. That is how her business got its start. Gradually she has been adding new customers and new merchandise by means of specialized product guides.

This is her first loan with the Fundación Mario Santo Domingo. She plans to use it to supply the large volumes of refrigerated meats which have already been ordered for the end-of-the-year season during which her customers prepare their most scrumptious dishes to celebrate the New Year. With the investment of this new capital she hopes to generate a bigger increase in her profits due to the good number of customers who have already placed their orders and because it is the season in which Leopoldina takes advantage of end-of-the-year deals, buying directly from the companies.

Her dream is to have her own home and additionally to exhibit her products in a large retail center which would facilitate her business interactions. Her greatest challenge was during the process of adaptation when she arrived in Barranquilla. Her dream is that, along with her husband, she would obtain a quality education for her two children who are 7 and 18 years old, channeling for them a future full of successes and prosperity.
