A loan of $1,100 helped to buy organic fertilizer so that he can soon harvest potatoes.

Fidel's story

Fidel, age 26, lives with Yolanda, 24; together they are a close family with their 1 year old daughter Stefany. They look after and educate Stefany in their own, rented, house, located in the Yanapuquio area (sierra del Perú). Every morning they get ready to go out and cultivate their potatoes, this being the family's main source of income. From the first hours of day until nightfall they dedicate their time to the cultivation of their crops. They are at the limit of their land and cannot easily expand [production]. Sure of his skill, Fidel states that his potato crop is always the most prized in the market, his potatoes being "Yungay" - a variety that is in great demand. Because of this he travels to market 3 times a month, and he is saving part of the money to buy a house. This is his 9th loan with [field partner] MFP and he likes the communal bank as his means of saving: with it he is sure he will be able to realize his goals. With the loan he obtains, he will buy organic fertilizer that will enable him to harvest the potato crop within a month.
