A loan of $1,000 helped to buy agricultural and veterinary products: vitamins, balanced feed, fertilizer, etc.

Varónica Alexandra's story

The communal bank "Aníbal San Andrés" meets every 15 days in the canton of Montechristi. This is a place that is famous for its straw hats and for being the birthplace of former Ecuadorian president Eloy Alfaro (known as "El Viejo Luchador," or "The Old Warrier.")

In this place we find Veronica, who is 24 years old, married, and has 2 children aged 2 and 1. Her husband has a business selling poultry.

She has a small store where she sells farming supplies and veterinary products. She sells balanced feed, vitamins, organic fertilizer and other farming supplies. She works from Mondays to Fridays from 8am until 7pm. She works alone, but in the evenings her husband helps her. She says that she is very pleased with her business, since it allows her to earn money and at the same time care for her children, which is most important. She buys her products in Manta from a distributor.

She will use this loan to buy products, especially agricultural supplies, since the planting season is approaching and she wants to have everything for her customers. She has been a member of her communal bank since it started, and she is very pleased with the benefits that she receives.

Her dream is to have a store that is much larger.
