Johanna Elizabeth's story

Johanna Elizabeth Gavilanes C. is 22 years old. She lives with her parents in Ventanas Canton in Los Rios province. She has a seven-year-old daughter named Katrine.

Johanna is a member of the Nueva Esperanza rural ventanilla (rural loan program) which is located 25 kilometers from Ventanas Canton. Inhabitants of the community make their living as short-cycle workers, planting corn, rice, soybeans, beans, and cacao. There are 14 members in all.

Johanna has been planting corn for two years and also has a small general store. She buys and sells her products in Ventanas Canton each week.

She is requesting this loan to buy supplies (urea fertilizer, herbicides) for corn cultivation. With the loan, she will be able to buy more merchandise for her store and earn more income. Her dream is to become a systems engineer. She says that sometimes there are not enough hours in the day, She enjoys daily visits to the city.
