Meri Janed R. Y. is 38 years old. She lives in a common-law partnership in the town of Ventanas, located in the province of Los Ríos. She has 4 children: Roxana (18), Taffarel (9), Fatima (5), y Scarlet (2).

Meri is a member of the Nueva Esperanza (“New Hope”) rural cooperative, which is located 25 kilometers from Ventanas. It is a community dedicated to short cycle crops (corn, rice, soy beans, broad beans and cacao). There are a total of 14 members.

Meri dedicates herself to planting corn. She makes her purchases and sales in Ventanas. She is requesting a loan to work in farming, buying supplies and fertilizers to plant corn. With the support of the loan, she would be able to improve her financial situation. She is challenged by the insect plagues that eat her corn.
