Romela's story

Romela D. R. is from the village of Villa Felipa, Gingoog City. She is 55 years old. Romela is widowed and has six adult children. To make a living, Romela owns and operates a sari-sari (variety) retail shop. The main source of income for the business comes from selling both food and daily-use products in the local community. Romela has been engaged in her business for over 10 years and earns approximately 3,000 PHP a month for these activities.

In 2010, Romela joined HSPFI to gain access to financial services to help improve her living situation and ability to engage in business activities. Romela is requesting a loan of 5,000 PHP, which will be used to purchase additional products to sell. This loan will be the first loan taken out by Romela from HSPFI. She plans to use the additional revenue generated from the business to improve/expand it.
