Everlyn is 47 years old and married with eight children between the ages of three and 25. Six of her children are currently attending school. For the last eight years, Everlyn has been farming in Kitale, Western Kenya, producing milk and vegetables which she sells to the local market.
Everlyn is requesting a loan of 26,000 KES through Juhudi Kilimo to purchase and insure a dairy cow. The proceeds from the sale of milk from this cow will help her pay school fees for her children. She also faces the challenges of disease prevention and storage facilities to preserve milk. Over the next five years, Everlyn plans to buy more dairy cows and a chuff cutter to be able to supply milk to the Kenya Cooperative Creameries.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
