Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

Hacia El Futuro 1, 2 & 3 Group's story

Elliot is one of the members of the Grupo Hacia el futuro 1, 2, and 3 (Toward the Future Group). They are small-business owners who work selling clothing, natural products, shoes, art, cosmetics, etc. in the city of San Pedro de Macoris, a city famous for its ball players and sugar industry. Their current economic success is dependent upon the Zona Franca, the cement industry, and other smaller operations such as tourism. This group member from Esperanza joined us because he needed to work to get ahead.

Elliot is very excited to receive his third loan through Esperanza Internacional (International Hope) after having satisfactorily repaid his previous loans and taking steps toward growing his business. He has had his business for around six years, and he started it with a small loan when he began to paint and sell his paintings at the Boca Chica beach. He is planning to inveS. his new loan in purchasing cosmetics through a catalog and buying supplies like paint, fabric, and frames to make paintings of all sizes. He is going to use his earnings to start a business selling telephones and create a good business for his future and for his family’s future.

In this group: Elliot, Elicia, Luisa, Marie, Yudelca, Leonne, Luzias*, Imaculada, Sacha, Franklin, Maria, Juana, Julio, Floramene*, Petronila
