A loan of $725 helped buy supplies for farming business.

Carmen's story

Carmen, 32, is a hard-working woman. She lives with Eloy, 32, and their 2 children: Yocelin, 10, and Tadeo, 5. They live in a rented house in the community of Chiras. Like women everywhere, Carmen spends her days hard at work. She cares for the animals she raises (bulls, pigs, rams, guinea pigs) from early in the morning through much of the day because she knows that her customers will pay a better price for the animals when they are well cared for. She works in her fields during the afternoon, growing peas, potatoes, maize and gladiolus which she then sells in the city's central market. She is very happy on the farm. Carmen wants to open a small restaurant in her house. She recently started making meals for other farm workers and she sells what she makes because her meals are very tasty. This is Carmen's fifth MFP loan. She likes the commitment of her community bank because they have ensured that she is able to meet her goals. She will use this loan to buy 20 sacks of manure to plant her potato crop. She also wants to buy seeds for a bean crop.
