Rec Isl Pri Rokel Ii Group's story

Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT), a partner of Kiva.org in Makeni, northern Sierra Leone, is pleased to present to you teachers of the REC Rokel Primary School II, in Waterloo small town, where “Shine on Sierra Leone” partnered with SMT to start a branch. This school was founded in September 1985. It is staffed with 21 teachers and 600 pupils.

These hard-working and dedicated teachers have come to SMT, a partner of Kiva.org, to seek a loan of SLL 8,900,000. With the help of this loan, these teachers can embark on some meaningful projects that their mere salaries alone cannot do. Some of them will use the loan to buy pieces of furniture, others to buy house building materials, some a piece of land, some pay school fees for their children, and some of them will invest the loan in business.

Edward O.K. C. is the leader of this group of teachers. Edward is married to a businesswoman and they have seven children. Four of the children are attending primary school and two are in secondary school. Edward has been in the teaching profession for 29 years now. Edward has applied for a SLL 1,500,000 loan in order to pay school fees and other school related charges for his children.
