Madat's story

51 year-old Madat is a refugee from war-affected territory of Azerbaijan Gubadli who is the only bread-winner for his family of 6.

“Sure, the initial stage of my refugee life was not sweet at all. I had two choices – either to live up and adapt to new circumstances or give up and lead my family to famine. So, my passion for sewing I’m involved in since 1982 helped me to go through all hardships and to support my family”-says Madat. His start in the clothing business began with applying in 2004 to Norwegian Microcredit, local microfinance organization, for aloan of 600 USD and sewing the first trousers for his client.

Now he plans to change his outdated ironer to a new one and diversify the variety of fabrics he uses. A new ironer will speed up and simplify his work. Thus he will be able to increase his incomes and afford delivering himself such little joys, maybe ordinary for others but not for him, as buying brand new TV set, video facilities and other household wares. He is confident in himself as well as his capacity to repay the loan and justify the trust of Kiva lenders.
