Ni Wayan Suwitri is a 40-year-old female living in the town of Melaya - Bali. Ni Wayan Suwitri is the group treasurer of a 15-member group loan offered by MUK. While each member of the group receives an individual loan, they all are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members if someone is delinquent or defaults. The official name of this borrowing group is Kertha Bakti (PK-10332).

Ni Wayan Suwitri is married and has 1 adult son. Her son now works at a hotel in Denpasar. Ni Wayan Suwitri owns & operates a business venture in the agriculture sector raising livestock, primarily pigs. She raises the pigs for two to three months and then sells them to a buyer; the pigs are used for pig barbecue. When she sells a pig, the price is approximately 200,000 - 250,000 IDR above her initial cost for the piglet (excluding food costs). Ni Wayan Suwitri has been engaged in this business for over 20 years and earns approximately 100,000 IDR a month from these activities. In addition to this pig breeding business, Ni Wayan Suwitri also operates a small kiosk where she sells food, snacks, and other items for daily use. She has a dream to build a larger kiosk, perhaps funded in part by the profits from her pig business.

In 2010, Ni Wayan Suwitri joined MUK to gain access to financial services to help improve her living situation and ability to engage in business activities. Ni Wayan Suwitri has successfully repaid a previous loan of 1,500,000 IDR from MUK. This previous loan was used to purchase baby livestock to raise & sell. She is now requesting a new loan of 1,500,000 IDR which will be used to purchase baby livestock to raise & sell in the future. This will be the 2nd loan taken out by the borrower from MUK.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
