A loan of $225 helped to buy sacks of manure and to hire laborers to help her with the next planting.

Isabel's story

Isabel. 62, is a woman who throughout her life has always wanted to provide her children with the best. She lives in her own house with her husband, Clímaco, 69, and what she wants most is to have a peaceful old age.

She is a corn, potato and choclo (an Andean tuber) farmer. She works with her husband who also works hard to produce family income. She has deemed it advantageous to take her products all the way to Tarma’s wholesale market because that’s where she gets the best prices for them.

What she likes best about her work is protecting her crops from insect infestations that could affect production. She has been farming for 21 years and considers the most difficult part having to transport her products because it’s a long, exhausting trek. In time she’d like to buy more land to increase her production and have more income through sales.

This is her 2nd loan with MFP. She feels obliged to repay on time because she does not want to cause problems for the other group members where she is very well liked.

She will use the requested 600 new soles to buy manure for her crops and to hire laborers to till the soil.
