Johnelyn's story

Johnelyn D., from the village of Bolinao, is 31 years old, married, and has two school-aged children. To make a living, Johnelyn owns and operates a general store selling a variety of products in the local community. Engaged in her business for over eight years, she earns approximately 5000 PHP a month.

In 2008, Johnelyn joined ASKI to gain access to financial services to help improve her living situation and ability to engage in business activities. Having repaid her previous loan of 9000 PHP from ASKI that was used to purchase new items to expand product offering, she is requesting her fifth loan of 10000 PHP to purchase additional products to sell. Johnelyn plans to use the additional revenue generated from the business to improve/expand the store.

ASKI is one of the most successful microfinance institutions in the Philippines. It has 29 branches covering the Central and Northeastern areas. Its clients are mostly farmers, fisherfolk, and small entrepreneurs.
