A loan of $1,800 helped a member pay school fees and invest the rest in agriculture.

Augustine B.'s Group's story

Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT), a partner of Kiva.org in Makeni, northern Sierra Leone, is pleased to present to you teachers of the St. Joseph Vocational Institute, Magburaka. This institute was established in 1985 by the Roman Catholics to improve the education of girl children in Magburaka and its surroundings.

Augustine B. M. who is pictured on the left is the leader of this group. Augustine was born in Kamabai village. He is fifty-two years old, married with six children – three in secondary school and three in primary school. Augustine has been in the teaching profession for eight years now. Augustine will use part of his share of the loan to pay school fees and other school charges for his children. He will invest the rest of the loan in agriculture.
