A loan of $1,000 helped to buy corn at wholesale.

Cruz María's story

Cruz María A. A., 56 years of age, lives in Tacachico in the department of La Libertad. She lives with her husband who, like her, is a merchant, as well as her only child who is 17 years of age. Cruz sells tortillas, which she makes from a corn base. Her business is located in her home, where people come to purchase her food. She has been cooking tortillas for 5 years, a food that is a staple in the diet of the Salvadorean people. They eat it on a daily basis, and sometimes two or three times per day, making the demand for her type of product very stable. Cruz wants very much to make improvements to her business since, thanks to the income it generates, she can help her husband a great deal with the family’s expenses. It also allows her to provide for their child, who is the primary motivation for her to want to improve and provide all the best for. For these reasons, Cruz requests a loan in order to have the necessary funds to buy corn at wholesale. This will allow her to serve more customers and to augment her income, which benefits her family.
