A loan of $1,000 helped buy clothing.

Miriam Rocío's story

In the Manabi province, we find the village of 24 de Mayo where the San Jose village bank meets. This place is well known for its beautiful landscapes and for its very hard-working people who generally work in agriculture and raising animals.

Miriam is the founding member of the bank and serves as president of the village bank. She has carried out this responsibility for the past 2 years. She is 41 years old and has been married for 15 years. She has a small, 10 year old daughter who motivates her to move forward. She was born in Otavalo but 15 years ago she came to live in San Jose. Her husband works in agriculture.

She has a small store where she sells a bit of everything (clothing, perfumes, beauty products, jewelry, among other things). She works every day from 8 am to 6 pm. She works alone since her business is not very big yet and she runs it out of her home; she also is a homemaker. She buys her products in Portoviejo and other clothing in her hometown of Otavalo where she travels once a month, or her sister sends her goods in Portoviejo.

She will use this loan to buy clothing to supply her business.

Her dream is to grow her business.
