Luz Maria's story

Luz María P. is 66 years old and very loved by her neighbors. She has a business selling cold cuts and she also has another business selling clothing and soft drinks, like pony malta, Boli, etc. Luz María is married and she has a 44 year old son. She lives in Carrizal, a large neighborhood where she has the majority of her clients. She was born in the department of Chocó and she came to Barranquilla with her son to live at the house of a brother. From this moment, she decided to obtain an additional income in order to support the household. First, she started with clothing and making sweets during the weekends. Then she added the soft drinks. Now she sells cold cuts like sausages, salami, bologna, chorizo which she buys at an important business and distributes them among her clientele on credit and then charges them weekly. Recently her business has grown, her orders have increased and she needs to somewhere to refrigerate her products, especially the soft drinks. For this reason, she needs to buy an appropriate cooler. Also, she is preparing for end of the year parties and women’s and children’s clothing are very popular. She has come to the Fundación Mario Santo Domingo to do her sixth loan and she is requesting a kiva loan for $1.500.000 COP.


Her dream is to improve her quality of life and the possibility to obtain more income for the family with her businesses. Her life has always been surrounded by business. She is a a person with many ideas and she is always putting them in motion, and she still dealing with entrepreneurial ideas that will generate income.
