Herminda's story

Herminda is 64 years old and some 20 years ago, she began her merchandising business in a very popular commercial center of Barranquilla. Here she gained all the experience she has today in selling varied merchandise from her residence. Herminda sells a little bit of everything by means of catalogs displaying products she promotes and sells. She also does direct buying.

Herminda usually sells clothing in general, cosmetics, household products, and even natural medicines. And every day she sells drinks, including Pony Malt, carbonated drinks, and juice from a refrigerator, also located in her own house.

Her dream is to expand her business. For this reason, she is applying for a Kiva loan through the Fundacion (Foundation) Mario Santo Domingo. Herminda will buy merchandise such as clothing, toys, cosmetics, and soft drinks, avoiding the end of the year when products become scarce and prices increase.

In this way, Herminda will initiate activity that can help her to sustain herself and remain permanently active. In the future, she proposes to establish a general store in a location she owns, but she lacks the capital to achieve this at present.
