A loan of $1,225 helped a member to buy plastic beans in bulk.

Safia's Group's story

Safia lives in the historic city of Lahore, the second largest city of Pakistan which is known for its history and culture. She is a businesswoman who owns and operates an embroidery business at her home. She prepares embroidered dresses for orders she receives from different boutiques and clothing shops. She earns a good profit upon completion of each dress. Due to her excellent embroidery skills, she is very popular in her community and receives regular orders.

Her husband, M. A., has a plastic bean selling business. He buys plastic beans from the city of Multan and supplies them to factories that make plastic bags and utensils by melting the beans. He has been in this business for the past 10 years and has a good clientele base. Safia has applied for a loan from Kiva's partner, Asasah, for her husband’s business. With this loan, her husband will buy plastic beans in bulk, which will enable him to fulfill the larger orders on time. Safia is hopeful that with the help of this investment, her husband’s business will become better and his income will increase, resulting in a better financial position for the family.
