Jiguisseme Group's story

The six women of the JIGUISSEME group are married and are, on average, 33 years old with 3 children. Most of them live in polygamous families in HAMDALLAYE, one of the districts of the city of Sikasso (3rd administrative region of Mali). They have had eight loans with the Soro Yiriwaso microfinance institution and all preceding loans have been repaid. This group of women is active in the retail commerce of various items, such as the vegetables sold by MARIAM S., pagnes (a colorful West African cloth), smoked fish etc. MARIAM S. plans to buy a considerable quantity of different types of vegetables with her loan. She gets her stock primarily from producers in neighboring villages and sells them for retail prices, on credit or in cash, to a clientele composed of women and men. She hopes to make a monthly profit of 75,000 CFA which will be used for her family's daily expenses.
