Geredi M. was born in Ruhuha, in eastern Rwanda. He is 65 years old, married and has 4 children. His eldest is 43 years old and his youngest is 28. He attended primary school. He lives with his family in Ruhuha Bugesera. All of his children have gone to school.

He belongs to Tuzamurane, a solidarity group of rice growers who guarantee each other’s loans. Geredi and his group work to support their families by improving their quality of life and paying their children’s school fees.

The group has taken out a loan from Amasezerano Community Banking to buy fertilisers for their fields. At harvest time, part of the crop is sold and the rest is saved for their families.

Il appartient dans un groupe solidaire appelé TUZAMURANE, qui est un groupe dont les membres sont agriculteurs de riz et ils se garantissent mutuellement, Geredi et son groupe travaillent pour faire vivre leurs familles en améliorant leurs conditions de vie et en payant les minervals pour leurs enfants. Le groupe a contracté un prêt au sein d’Amasezerano Community Banking pour acheter les felitilisants de leur champ. Quand le groupe récolte, une partie de la récolte est vendue et une autre est utilisée pour les familles.

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
