Veronica's story

Veronica B. is from the village of San Isidro. She is 56 years old, married, and has five school-age children. Veronica owns a business that makes general household furniture which she sells to local businesses and community members. Veronica has been engaged in her business for over 10 years and earns approximately 5,000 PHP a month.

In 2008, Veronica joined ASKI to gain access to financial services to help improve her living situation and ability to engage in business activities. Veronica has successfully repaid a previous loan of 10,000 PHP from ASKI. This previous loan was used to purchase raw materials to make additional furniture. Veronica is requesting a new loan of 10,000 PHP which will again be used to purchase raw materials to make more furniture. This loan will be the 6th loan taken out by Veronica from ASKI. She plans to use the additional revenue generated to continue to expand her business.

ASKI is one of the most successful microfinance institutions in the Philippines. It has 29 branches covering the Central and Northeastern areas. Its clients are mostly of farmers, fisherfolk and small entrepreneurs.
